On election days, schools and universities are usually closed.
in India in order to avoid disturbances and because of safety concerns. The closure guarantees the security of the personnel and students while also facilitating the smooth running of the polls by adding more room for polling places.
The first and second phases of the Lok Sabha elections, which were held on April 19 and April 26, respectively, are currently underway. The third phase, which will cover 94 Lok Sabha seats spread across 12 states and union territories, is scheduled to begin on May 7.
There will be voting in this phase for the following states: Assam (4 seats), Bihar (5 seats), Chhattisgarh (7 seats), Goa (2 seats), Gujarat (26 seats), Karnataka (14 seats), Madhya Pradesh (8 seats), Maharashtra (11 seats), Uttar Pradesh (10 seats), West Bengal (4 seats), Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu (2 seats), and Jammu and Kashmir (1 seat).
Election day closures of schools and colleges are common, mostly due to security concerns. Increased tension and security concerns can arise during elections, particularly in places where there has been a history of violence or where there is a chance of disturbance. Authorities want to prevent any disruptions during voting and ensure the safety of staff and students, thus they are closing educational facilities. As polling places for elections are frequently schools and colleges, it also facilitates the flow of voters and election officials. Additionally, by taking this step, more individuals are encouraged to vote without worrying that their regular activities would be disrupted.
Following the third round of Lok Sabha elections on May 7, 96 seats across ten states and union territories will be up for grabs in the fourth round of voting. Voters in the 17 constituencies in Telangana and the 25 seats in Andhra Pradesh will march to the polls on May 13. 49 parliamentary constituencies in 8 states and union territories, including the one seat in Ladakh, will cast ballots in the fifth phase on May 20. Phase 6 will have seven states/UTs and fifty-seven seats. On May 25, all seven seats in Delhi and ten seats in Haryana will be put to vote. On June 1, the last round of elections will take place, with 57 seats spread across 8 states and union territories, including every seat in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. On June 4, there will be a vote count.
